1- Higher Council for Motherhood & Childhood (HCMC) The Higher Council for Motherhood & Childhood is a governmental institution that acts as a coordination body with other ministries under the governmental cabinet in Yemen in issues related to childhood & motherhood. The main focus of the Council is the promotion, supervision, monitoring the implementation of the child right Convention. 2- Social Workers Association /Lahej The Social Workers Association in Lahej governorate was formed in 1997 to enhance social workers role in the primary schools. The social workers have provided psychosocial support to traumatized school children and their parents. In 2004 social workers Association had investigated the exposure of children to corporal punishment in school and within the family and within this project the results are disseminated and activities for good practices and material production to ban corporal cooperation in schools and homes. 3- Cultural Information &Humanitarian Service Center (FGM) The Cultural Information and Humanitarian Services Center has worked with local NGOs to raise the Yemeni awareness about the negative health implications of FGM on both girls and women's health. The members of the center work hard to strength the institutional capability by participation out reach and training teachers to advocated against the harmful effect of FGM. 4- The General Federation for Workers Union – Dhamar The General Federation of Workers Union (GFWU)-Damar branch is dealing with issues of the worst forms of child labour in Damar, where 60% of the children are working on agriculture of Qat. 5- Association for Rehabilitation of Working Children Association for the Rehabilitation and Protection of Working Children is a grassroots association is based in aden to combat working children phenomenon. The association advocates for the rights of working children to education and rehabilitation and protection through raising awareness activities among children, parents and community. 6 -Somali refugees Children Save the Children Sweden implemented children in war and refugee situation project is made up of several sub projects fully funded by UNHCR. There is the primary school in Basatin area / Aden, Somali Refugee Primary School, Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Mother and Child Center (MCC) in Kharaz refugee camp.
The Somali refugee school in Kharaz caters for refugee basic education using the Somali curriculum to prepare the children for repatriation in the foreseeable future. The school headmaster and the formed education committee with 20 teachers ( 16 male and 4 females) work in the school involving school children, parents, elders, and actors in the camp in the school activities. Al Basatin School provides primary education to returnee and refugee children in Basatin. Ministry of education is responsible for the school while Save the Children supported by UNHCR gives allowances and organize capacity building to 32 returnee and refugee volunteers teachers( 20 M and 12 F). The mother and child center (MCC) was established to support traumatized mothers and their infants. Four volunteers organize traditional and cultural activities for mothers that work as a healing process. The infant playgroup are received daily by the volunteers at the day care center and provided with supplementary feeding while mothers join the literacy classes and the traditional activities. The Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) is implemented through the combined efforts of disabled children, their families, community, appropriate health education, social services and school. The main objective is to promote the right of disabled children to integrate into the community, the right to education and medical care. Three CBR workers together with a supervisor carry out regular home visits to train families in rehabilitation exercises using WHO manual. 7- Deaf and Mute Association Deaf and Mute Association is an active NGO in providing educational, vocational and cultural support to deaf and mute children in Aden governorate. 8- community based rehabilitation (CBR) associations in Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Ebb The Association for Rehabilitation and inclusion of Children with Disability /Aden is emerged from the former programme of CBR in the Ministry of Social Affairs as response to financial and management constrains. The association was established in 2002 with the aim of promoting CBR activities in their targeting areas, Aden and promote community participation on the advocacy of the rights of children with disabilities to be involved in their societies and have access to the basic services including in schools. 7-Al-Tahhaddi Association for disabled girls Al-Tahaddi Association for Disabled Girls is an association established in 1998 by the permission of the Ministry of Social Affairs. It is exerting every effort to serve handicapped girls and women by the coordination with other governmental and non governmental organizations and associations. 10- Al-Miryad Association Al-Miryad Association is a community based organization established as a response of the needs of the communities in marginalized areas in Asser area in Sana'a who are mostly from Akhdam and poorest of the poor. Even though Al-Miryad is a newly emerged association, all its members are from the community. The main aim of the association is to improve the living situation of the community especially children who are mostly exposed to harmful labour, begging and drop out from school and sometimes they never attend schools. 11- Al Rahma Association for the care of Cerebral Palsy children Al Rahma Association was formed to support cerebral palsy children and include them in schools. Parents, governmental and non governmental organization cooperated with Al Rahma association to establish classes for cerebral palsy children in three schools in Aden. 13- Democracy School The Democratic School is a non governmental organization established 2002 by the permission of the Ministry of Culture to promote democratic awareness within children and human and children rights. The school is working to support the participation of children in the process of democracy in Yemen, and enhance their capacity to participate themselves in the awareness raising campaign and the political arena through their participation on the National Election process. The Democratic School launched several activities related to enhance children's participation in the public and the political arena during the last three years. They contributed effectively to the establishment of Child Parliament in Yemen as the first experience. 14- Ministry of Human Rights The Ministry of Human Rights was established as a process of promoting Human Rights issues in Yemen with presidential Decree no. (106) for 2003. The main objective of the Ministry is to formulate policies and stratigies, plans and programmes to promote Human Rights and coordinate the implementation with other related Ministries. 16- Child to Child Association Child to Child Programme was initiated by Save the Children in the Southern governorate schools after 1994 civil war. Child to child approach has proved through experience to be the most effective approach to introducing the concept of “Children for health into Schools” enhance CP. The CTC Association branch in Aden has outreach activities – Lahj – Abyan - Hadramot . is established helped children to help their peers and families to disseminate health awareness, promote active learning and enhance children participation. 17- Al Zahra Women Association Al Zahara Social and Vocational Association for Women Development was formed in 1998. it is officially registered at Ministry of Social Affairs with an elected board of 7 women and auditing committee of 5 women and has acquired 150 members. The Association id voluntarily formed, controlled and managed independently and empower girls and women to gian self confidence and esteem. 18- Inclusive Social Cervices Center Inclusive Social Service Center has been established by the Ministry of Social affairs in October 2001 to support street and marginalized children and drop out from schools and provide them with psychosocial support activities. 20 - Juvenile Center Activities The Juvenile Center is a governmental body under Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs( MOISA) The center receives Juveniles through police stations, Juvenile Justice Courts and Juvenile Prosecution. Educational, Psychosocial activities and vocational training are implemented by NGOs , Juvenile Justice staff and trainers from Aden Vocational Institute in cooperation with MOISA. 21-- Safe Childhood Center In response to the last two years there is a noticeable trend of increase of street children in Aden governorate. Hence Ministry of social Affairs in coordination with concerned NGOs tried to find solution to this phenomenon. The association lobbies with the private sectors and the civil society to protect rights of these children. The centre is run by volunteers and receives 12-25 street children.
