Fighting erupted in the Palestinian camp of Nahr El-Bared on the 20th of May 2007 and ended on the 2nd of September, forcing more than 5,000 Palestinian families to seek refuge in the neighbouring Baddawi camp. Many children from Nahr El-Bared became exposed to, and witnessed violence during this period of time. Although children fled with their families to safer neighbouring camps, they have been exposed to violence, abuse, and neglect due to the dire living-conditions and lack of security provided in Baddawi camp. In addition, over-crowdedness in Baddawi is indirectly causing a huge strain on everyone: adults and children alike. In response to the situation, Save the Children Sweden and its Alliance members, as one of many NGOs, have worked with local partners in the field of protection and psychosocial support since day two of the crises. Part of this work has been performed with generous support from the European Commission, Humanitarian Aid - ECHO. The implemented projects have primarily focused on psycho-social and recreation, learning through play and art, in addition to sport activities accessible to all children, including those with disabilities. More than 5,000 children living at Baddawi have been reached through these activities. Save the Children Sweden is continuously monitoring, reporting, and advocating on abuses of children’s rights, well-being, and security and are committed to continue with its work till the situation have improved
